Velvet has a soft deep pile which feels almost furry when you brush your hands over it and gives depth and richness to the color with a strong contrast between light and dark. Velvet drapes are ideal for bedrooms as once they are drawn they keep the room completely dark. Although the material is heavy it flows like a cascade of water. Window drapes should be such that they should keep the light and heat outside at the same time as looking beautiful in the room. There are various fabrics which are used for window drapes such as cotton, silk, velvet, linen and other synthetic materials. Drapes should be such that they should compliment the look of your room.
Occasionally, valances with side panels are placed over all types of blinds for yet another style. The consumer, depending on the style complexity, without professional help, can install his or her curtains. Curtains can shield a room from some dust and light. However, they are quite inept in filtering much light because of their sheer nature and as mentioned before, curtains offer little or no privacy for the same reason.
If you need to clean up your drapes in a hurry, you can take them down and remove all pins and hooks. Place the drapes in your dryer on the airdry or airfluff setting along with three scented dryer sheets and run the dryer for about 15 minutes. This will remove dust and loose dirt from your drapes while leaving them with a pleasant scent. This is not the most thorough cleaning technique, but it will suffice if you are in a rush. Drapes are basically long curtains. They are used to dress the windows up. Window coverings come in so many varieties these days that it may be hard to decide what you want.
